Anke Rehlinger Rejects Ministerial Positions in Coalition Deal

Following the positive decision by the SPD members to support a coalition agreement with the Union, the deputy chairwoman of the SPD and Minister-President of Saarland, Anke Rehlinger, has rejected any claims for ministerial positions. In an interview with ARD’s “Tagesthemen” on Wednesday evening, Rehlinger stated that the SPD needs “a critical debate on how we should position ourselves for the future.”

When asked about the political future of SPD chairwoman Esken, Rehlinger said, “of course, she will also contribute to putting together the team now.” Being part of it “can be done by many and nobody has any claims or rights at this point.”

Regarding the future profile of the SPD in the coalition, Rehlinger said she has the impression that citizens “are not primarily concerned with whether something is left or right, but whether it is right or wrong and whether it helps to make Germany strong again.
