'No Zero-Sum Games Allowed'

Designated Federal Chancellor’s Office Chief Thorsten Frei has urged future coalition partners to deal fairly with each other. “The Union and the SPD must congratulate each other on their successes” said the CDU politician to the newspapers of the Funke Media Group. The coalition relies on all partners working together well. “We must ensure that it does not become a zero-sum game in which someone can only win as much as someone else loses.”

He personally sees his role as helping to make the Federal Government “work well and flexibly.” It is important to him to solve problems in a way that no one loses face. “My role can be summed up in one sentence: A good Federal Chancellor’s Office Minister solves the problems that most people would not have thought existed.”

When asked about his stance on the future Union parliamentary group leader Jens Spahn, Frei said: “Jens Spahn will be a good parliamentary group leader.” He is convinced that the cooperation will be very good “if everyone fulfills their role.
