Amnesty International criticizes the international community for failing to protect human rights. In its report on the global human rights situation for 2024/25, the organization warns of a “global human rights crisis.” The report highlights escalating armed conflicts, the disregard of international law by its advocates and the infringement of the rights of refugees and marginalized groups in many countries. Additionally, the report notes that the rule of law and human rights are being openly attacked by politicians with an authoritarian agenda. Julia Duchrow, the General Secretary of Amnesty International in Germany, states that there is a “epochal break” where the rule of law, international law and human rights protection are being ignored and attacked by a variety of states. Human rights violations are no longer denied or covered up, but are instead explicitly justified.
