Laumann defends Merz's cabinet selection, cites strong coalition agreement and internal climate

Karl-Josef Laumann, the deputy chairman of the CDU and former head of the employer’s wing CDA, has rejected criticism of the ministerial appointments of the likely future Chancellor, Friedrich Merz. Laumann told the “Rheinische Post” on Tuesday that he is satisfied with the cabinet that Merz has put together. He acknowledged that the working-class wing of the party has not been considered, but believes that those in the cabinet are not representatives of the middle class. Laumann added that what is more important is the coalition agreement, which he believes they can handle well. He also emphasized that the future government must have a good internal climate, citing the negative consequences of a lack thereof in the past three years. Dennis Radtke, Laumann’s successor as CDA chairman, criticized the exclusion of the CDA from the government.
