The Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie (BDI) has welcomed the nomination of CDU politician Katherina Reiche as Minister of Economy. “We need a strong voice and a champion for the economy” said Tanja Gönner, CEO of the BDI, to the newspapers of the Bayern Media Group. “That an experienced energy manager and politician will become the new Minister of Economy and Energy is an important signal.” The future minister must “put a consistent economic transformation and the efficient and competitive implementation of the energy transition at the center.” In times of economic downturn, a robust Ministry of Economy is crucial. “The structure and decision-making authority of the institution must reflect this importance. What is decisive is that the economic transformation is tackled quickly, resolutely and pragmatically” Gönner added. From 1998 to 2015, the Brandenburg native Reiche was a member of the Bundestag. Then she moved into the economy.
