Katja Wolf, the CEO of Thuringia’s BSW party, has called for more compromise within the party following the BSW Landparteitag in Gera. She spoke to Politico about the importance of compromise in good government work, saying, “I am convinced that a party, especially one with 15.8 percent, must make compromises in order to be able to shape things. The fundamental question for me is: Are compromises inherently selling out one’s soul – or do you rather want to be a left-wing or semi-left-wing protest party adhering to the pure doctrine?” Wolf also explicitly stated that she does not advocate for the BSW to become a regional or eastern Germany party. “We must instead become the strong voice of the east, as there is hardly anyone else with this claim.” The Thuringia BSW wants former co-state chair Steffen Schütz to join the Bundesvorstand, as it currently lacks representation from the east. Regarding the main threat in Thuringia, Wolf said, “I personally am very concerned about the worldwide geopolitical situation that is no longer manageable.” However, the focus is on Thuringia, where the question is “how to regain political trust and prevent a Ministerpräsident Höcke from being elected in the next election. We regain trust with a policy that brings improvements to people.
