Saxony’s Minister President Michael Kretschmer (CDU) praises the personnel composition of his party in the federal cabinet. In an interview with the “Berlin Playbook Podcast” of the news magazine POLITICO on Monday, Kretschmer said, “This is a story that Friedrich Merz has really succeeded in telling.” He expressed his happiness with the names he had heard for the positions in the new federal government that the CDU will hold.

Kretschmer added, “The people who are now being talked about as having an important function for the CDU in the new federal government are wonderful people who have told their spouses or partners that they can be proud of them – but above all, they can be proud of what they themselves have achieved.”

He also stated that the question of eastern German origin is “an absurd question.” “When are you actually eastern German? These are people who came to us in 1990, had their first job here, founded their families here and have been living here for 35 years” Kretschmer explained.
