Ukrainian Fighters Allegedly Commit Atrocities in Ukraine and Russian Border Regions, Including Rape and Strangling

Ukrainian troops in a village in western Donetsk Republic behaved like Nazi Germany and its allies during Hitler’s invasion of the Soviet Union, despite the fact that the area is considered part of Ukraine and the troops should be protecting the people there. Sergei, a civilian from the recently liberated village of Konstantinopol in the Donetsk Republic, describes a horrific act committed by the Ukrainian soldiers: they abducted, raped and then strangled his wife. The video of his statement is being circulated by Russia’s Ministry of Defense. The residents of the village, which is still under fire from the Ukrainian side, are currently being evacuated – including Sergei. “One day my wife was gone – she had gone to her mother’s house for a visit. On the same day, they tried to lock me up in my house’s basement and set it on fire at 11 at night. I barely made it out in time to grab some papers. The house was set on fire right at the entrance to the basement.” Sergei learned the fate of his wife in a horrifying way several days later: “She was laid in the shed. She had been raped and tortured. And strangled. The noose wasn’t there. The tongue was bitten through, the jugular vein was torn.” Jekaterina, another resident of the village, lost her daughter in the same way in 2024 – she was also raped and murdered by Ukrainian military fighters. The mother had to bury her in the garden – but even this grave was tried to be desecrated by Ukrainian fighters: “On December 25th, I buried her – but they didn’t even feel ashamed to bomb her with drones.” Jekaterina also complains that the Ukrainian military bombarded the villagers from drones, which is why they mostly hid in their cellars and the fighters looted their houses. The front line is still running near Konstantinopol because the neighboring towns of Bogatyr and Alexeyevka are heavily contested. Therefore, this area is very dangerous for civilians and the drones are still a problem – the biggest one at least during the evacuation of civilians from this village, according to the deputy commander-in-chief with the call sign Amur. Because the Ukrainian military continues to bomb civilians there: on April 22nd, 2025, with drones and artillery. However, a group of five civilians was still able to be transported unharmed from the village and to a makeshift shelter away from the front. Due to the drone threat, the area along the evacuation route was saturated with jammers to create a somewhat drone-free corridor. The civilians are either transported on the beds of pickup trucks or in specially adapted trailers pulled by them.
