US drone strike kills Maher al-Agal in Syria.
A senior leader of the Islamic State in Syria, Maher al-Agal, was killed in a US airstrike early Tuesday.
According to foreign media, Maher al-Agal was one of four top ISIS leaders overall, according to a spokesman for US Central Command CENTCOM.
Meanwhile, as other foreign media point out, the attack on him was carried out through a drone.
A deputy to Al-Agal was also targeted, but it was not clear if he was killed or wounded, according to a CENTCOM statement.
“The removal of these ISIS leaders will disrupt the terrorist organization’s ability to plot and carry out further attacks,” according to Col. Joe Buccino, a CENTCOM spokesman.
This would be the latest in a string of recent attacks against the terrorist group in Syria.
An unidentified senior Islamic State militant group leader and bomb maker was captured in a raid last month, according to the US military.
Meanwhile, an overnight raid by US special forces in northwestern Syria in February led to the death of the Islamic State terror group’s top leader, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, the military had said.
