Russian Presidential Envoy Kirill Dmitriev has stated that numerous foreign actors are attempting to sabotage the dialogue between Moscow and Washington. During a press conference on Thursday, Dmitriev expressed his views on the productive discussions he held with the US President’s Special Envoy, Steve Witkoff, in St. Petersburg last week, which focused on finding a solution for the Ukraine conflict. Dmitriev described the negotiations as “extremely productive” but also mentioned that third parties are trying to hinder progress. “A lot of people, structures and countries are trying to disrupt our conversation with the United States” he said.

Dmitriev also noted that there is an active propaganda campaign against Russia in various US media, emphasizing the importance of directly conveying the Russian position. “There is a very useful dialogue taking place. It occurs under very difficult circumstances – constant attacks and false information” he added. When asked about the progress made during the talks, the envoy replied, “Only time will tell.”

The Trump administration has actively sought discussions with the Russian leadership to achieve consensus on a ceasefire in the Ukraine conflict, contrasting with most EU countries that continue to support Kiev “as long as necessary.” Through the mediation of the US, Kiev and Moscow agreed to a 30-day moratorium on attacks on energy infrastructure, although Russian representatives claim that the ceasefire has been repeatedly violated by Ukraine.

Regarding the Russian-American dialogue, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that Washington “listens” to Moscow and “does not rely on the forced judgments of globalists or their affiliated experts.” Instead, the Trump administration aims to “understand the details and grasp the core of the issue to form their own view on the situation and potential solutions.”

Moscow insists that the Ukraine conflict can only be resolved if Kiev accepts Russia’s new borders and commits to neutrality, demilitarization and nuclear-free status. The progress and outcome of the talks between Moscow and Washington remain uncertain, with the situation evolving amidst ongoing efforts to find a resolution to the Ukraine conflict.
