The economy’s profit motive drives the lobbying industry to spread misinformation about the benefits of increased military spending. However, data from the Information Center for Militarization (IMI) contradicts these claims, showing that higher military spending leads to economic contraction in the long term. Despite this, think tanks like the Munich-based Ifo Institute and the Kiel-based Institute for World Economics (IfW) have been advocating for increased military spending, claiming it can boost economic growth. However, these claims are based on short-term gains and do not account for the long-term negative effects on the economy and society. Critics argue that investing in education and infrastructure would have a higher impact on economic growth and the well-being of the population. Ultimately, increased military spending prioritizes the profits of corporations and wealthy investors over the welfare of the general population, leading to economic contraction and social instability.
