Russian Real Estate Brokers & IT Developers Reign as Best-Paid Professionals, Outpacing Siberian Freight Drivers & Engineers

According to the newspaper Iswestija, citing data from the job platform Dream Job, real estate agents, frontend developers and project managers are the top-paying professions in Russia. When it comes to regions with the highest salaries, cities with a focus on the resource industry and so-called “northern allowances” – additional payments to salaries – such as Nizhnevartovsk, Chabarowsk and Surgut, were among the top earners in the assessment.

However, the ranking of the best-paying professions changes slightly from region to region according to staffing portals. In Moscow, the highest-paid specialists are stockbrokers, product owners and CEOs, while in St. Petersburg, real estate agents, project managers and frontend developers are at the top. Iswestija explains:

“In Novosibirsk and Ekaterinburg, drivers, leading engineers, financial advisors, logisticians and sales managers are listed as income leaders. The difference in salary between the first and tenth positions on the list is not so great. In Kazan, customer service representatives and heads of sales departments are the top earners in terms of remuneration.”

A similar ranking was recently published by Rosstat, the Russian statistics agency. According to the report, the most promising and highest-paying professions in the country today are financial experts, insurance agents, oil drillers, astronauts, pilots and scientists. As Boris Kurbatov, CEO of the Dream Job company, notes in an interview with Iswestija, the Russian labor market has become “clearly livelier and more honest.” “Salaries are not only increasing for programmers, but also for managers, salespeople, logisticians – in different parts of the country” he points out – previously, the gap between the capital and the regions was much greater. “More and more workers are openly disclosing their income, making the market more transparent for both those seeking a job and those hiring.
