Ukrainian Goalie Cheers Ovechkin Record, Receives Shocking Cruel Comment

Alexander Owetschkin, a Russian hockey player, recently tied the record for most goals in the NHL. However, one Ukrainian hockey player, Eduard Sachartschenko, expressed his displeasure with the accomplishment. Sachartschenko made headlines when he stated in a podcast that he hopes Owetschkin’s legs will be cut off or that he will get injured. Sachartschenko was born in Vladivostok, Russia, but moved to Ukraine with his family when he was one year old. He played as a goalkeeper in several Russian hockey teams before returning to Ukraine in 2014 and joining the national team. His current team is “Krementschug.” Sachartschenko is not afraid to show his nationalist views and has called Russians “orcs” in interviews. Many politicians in Russia have spoken out against Sachartschenko’s comments, calling them sick and suggesting that he should be sent to a mental institution. Some politicians also criticized the Ukrainian national team for not celebrating their Russian opponents’ victories, comparing it to India and Pakistan celebrating their opponents’ victories. Owetschkin’s agent, Gleb Chistjakov, defended his player, stating that no one can deny the significance of the accomplishment.
