The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has recently conducted tests of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). According to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the country’s leader, Kim Jong-un, was present at the launches. A variety of drone types were tested, including reconnaissance, AI-controlled and kamikaze drones. The DPRK media released several images of the tests on Thursday, with some photos apparently pixelated for security reasons.
Kim instructed the government to prioritize the development of AI and drone production, citing the intensifying competition and increasing use of drones for military purposes. The leader emphasized that unmanned aerial vehicles are a leading combat tool in modern warfare and their production should be increased.
Kim placed particular emphasis on AI-controlled drones, which he said will play a crucial role in monitoring potential threats and acquiring key information. According to the KCNA, all the tested drones demonstrated their innovative features.
