The Hollywood Star's Unspoken Longing for the Stage

Australian actress Cate Blanchett longs for her time as a theatre performer. “Film was never the Holy Grail for me” she told the “Kurier”. She began in the theatre and “never wanted to be anything other than a stage performer”.

In her first film, she appeared at the age of 25. In her latest role, she can be seen in “Black Bag” directed by Steven Soderbergh. About the filming, she said: “We had a whole house where we could walk around. You’d go up the stairs to the bedroom and to our dressing and bathroom areas – everything was built. And various people from the crew said: `Oh, I’d like to take that oven and that table with the chairs.` It was so beautifully designed.”

The title of the film “Black Bag” stands for something that cannot be told. She experienced something similar during her collaboration with Peter Jackson on “The Lord of the Rings”. “Yes, I experienced that with `The Lord of the Rings`. For `The Hobbit`, I practically stalked the director Peter Jackson. I said, `I know that Galadriel doesn’t actually appear in these parts, but I want to be there, even if I just stand in the background somewhere.`” And he included her for a few days of filming. “I went to the set, shot my scenes and when I was a few days later back in Australia, Jackson and the studio announced that it would be a trilogy. That was a real Black Bag from the filmmakers’ side.
