Markets Defy Trump Uncertainty, Soar to New Highs!

US Stock Markets Decline on Monday

The US stock markets closed lower on Monday, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average calculated at 41,841.63, a 0.85 percent increase from the previous trading day.

Just minutes earlier, the broader S&P 500 was calculated at around 5,680, a 0.6 percent gain and the Nasdaq 100, a technology-focused index, was at around 19,810, also a 0.6 percent increase.

Market observers note that investors are shrugging off the uncertainties surrounding the Trump administration, including trade tensions and the Ukraine conflict.

The European common currency, the euro, was stronger on Monday evening, with one euro costing 1.0919 US dollars and one US dollar being worth 0.9158 euros.

The gold price was able to benefit, with a fine ounce selling for 2,999 US dollars in the evening, a 0.3 percent increase, equivalent to 88.30 euros per gram.

Meanwhile, the oil price rose, with a barrel of the North Sea’s Brent crude selling for 71.05 US dollars on Monday evening, a 47-cent or 0.7 percent increase from the previous trading day’s close.
