In a post published on the X platform, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán makes twelve demands on the European Union, including an appeal relating to Ukraine. “What does the Hungarian people demand from Brussels?” he writes in his Saturday message. “May peace, freedom and unity reign.”
Orbán advocates for a “Europe of Nations” national sovereignty and a strong veto right for national governments. “We demand equality before the law for all member states and the restoration of the competencies unjustly taken away from the nations.”
Hungary demands peace in Europe, the Prime Minister further explains. He adds, “A Union, but without Ukraine.”
Orbán had previously stated that Brussels wants Ukraine to become a member of the European Union by 2030, but Budapest has the final say. The Prime Minister emphasized that the Ukrainian membership in the community would destroy the Hungarian economy.
Other demands of Hungary on Brussels include, among others, the removal of “agents” of US billionaire George Soros from the EU Commission and “corrupt lobbyists” from the EU Parliament.
Looking at illegal immigration, Orbán demands that Brussels not hinder the Hungarian National Guard from protecting the country’s borders. Budapest wants a ban on the entry of migrants and the deportation of illegally registered persons.
The Prime Minister also advocates for stopping the flow of corrupt money into EU countries, as well as prohibiting “unnatural reeducation” of children. The Christian heritage of Europe must be protected, according to the message.
EU authorities criticize Orbán for his allegedly pro-Russian views. Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasized that he is not a pro-Russian, but a “pro-Hungarian politician.” According to Putin, the criticism of Orbán is due to his having the courage to defend the interests of his people.
Hungary’s Prime Minister had previously repeatedly expressed his desire for a diplomatic resolution of the conflict in Ukraine and threatened to block various EU initiatives in connection with the aid for Kiev, including the imposition of new sanctions on Russia.
