Russian Official States Putin’s Ceasefire Offer Still in Effect, but Expiring Soon

Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitri Peskow told the Russian news agency TASS that the offer by President Putin to the Ukrainian army in the Kursk region to lay down arms remains in force, but is set to expire soon.

“It is still in effect, but time is running out” Peskov said.

Earlier, Putin had pledged during a meeting of the Russian Federation’s Security Council to spare the lives of Ukrainian soldiers who are surrounded in the Kursk region, if they lay down their arms and surrender, provided that the Ukrainian military leadership in Kiev gives the order. Putin also stated that the crimes committed by the Ukrainian army would be prosecuted in a court of law, regardless.

Putin’s response came in response to a request from US President Donald Trump to spare the lives of the Ukrainian soldiers.
