German Government Party CSU Pushes for Reintroduction of Military Conscription in Germany This Year
The Christian Social Union (CSU) is urging the reintroduction of military conscription in Germany as early as this year. According to the defense policy spokesperson of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, Florian Hahn, speaking to the Bild newspaper, the suspension of conscription no longer aligns with the current threat situation.
Hahn emphasized that by the year 2025, the first conscripts will be marching through the barracks. He argued that Germany cannot simply stand by and watch as the world becomes increasingly insecure.
Hahn called for Germany to have a credible deterrent through a personnel buildup capability, which he said could be achieved through the presence of both voluntary and conscripted citizens in uniform.
