A 52-year-old woman was sentenced by the Bern State’s Attorney’s Office for verbal abuse. The incident occurred on a summer afternoon in August 2024 on the Kornhausplatz in Bern.
The woman unexpectedly spat on a man’s upper arm and insulted him with the words “F*ck Ukraine”. She then continued to talk to the man in Russian.
At the time of the incident, the accused was heavily intoxicated, with a breath alcohol reading of 1.46 promille.
The State’s Attorney’s Office imposed a conditional fine of three daily installments of 50 francs, in addition to obliging the woman to pay court costs of 300 francs.
As the woman had been previously convicted, this fine constitutes a supplementary penalty. The State’s Attorney’s Office justified the verdict by stating that the woman’s behavior had breached the dignity and respect of the victim.
