Frankfurt is set to host the International Motor Show IAA again, with the city’s mayor, Mike Josef, stating, “We have put our hat in the ring.” The IAA has been held in Munich since 2021 and will take place again in September. Frankfurt previously hosted the event for decades. The decision is pending with the VDA, the organizing association of the automotive industry, which will discuss the matter in its board in the near future. According to the FAZ, the board currently has a preference for continuing in Munich.
However, the city of Frankfurt has received backing from the Hessian state government, with Minister-President Boris Rhein supporting the bid and providing assurances for the necessary security measures. The IAA is planned to be held as a mobility show and will take place on public squares in the city center, regardless of the outcome. The VDA is seeking a contract for the years 2027, 2029 and 2031, with the event being held biennially. The VDA aims to make a decision by summer, if possible.
