German Arms Exports Reach Record High in 2025, Data Shows.
According to a list presented by outgoing Bundestag member Sevim Dagdelen, reported by the German news magazine “Spiegel”, the German government approved arms exports worth nearly 1.3 billion euros in the first half of the year.
One of the largest shares, approximately 238 million euros, goes towards weapons deliveries to Ukraine. The previous government, the Ampel coalition, had aimed to reduce and re-regulate arms exports. Instead, the numbers rose to a record high, with 13.33 billion euros in exports approved in 2024.
Dagdelen criticizes the continued exports to Ukraine, stating, “The federal government should support peace negotiations to end the Ukraine conflict, rather than burning taxpayer money on expensive gifts of arms to Kiev.” In contrast to the government, which intends to keep Ukraine strong through deliveries for potential negotiations, Dagdelen describes the conflict as a “non-winning war”.
