Budget Chair and More at Stake

Budget Chair and More at Stake

A coalition in the German Bundestag is seeking to fill several key positions, including the chair of the budget committee, following their success in the recent federal election. According to Bernd Baumann, the parliamentary business manager of the AfD faction, the tradition is for the largest opposition faction to hold the chair of the budget committee.

The AfD faction previously held the position from 2017 to 2021, with Peter Boehringer at the helm. Baumann stated that the final decision, however, rests with the faction. He also expressed the intention of the AfD to nominate a vice-president of the German Bundestag, citing the expectation of being the second-largest faction in the parliament. Additionally, the AfD faction claims entitlement to the second-largest faction’s meeting room due to their size.
