German Green party chief Felix Banaszak has pledged further support to Ukraine and demanded a comprehensive reform of the debt brake after the White House incident.

Following the commotion at the White House, Green party chief Felix Banaszak has promised Ukraine further support and demanded a comprehensive reform of the debt brake.

‚It is embarrassing how Donald Trump presents his colleague Selenskyj in front of the camera and intentionally confuses the attacked with the aggressor‚, said Banaszak to the Funke-Mediengruppe newspapers. Ukraine can rely on Germany and its European partners standing by its side, the Green party chief stated. ‚It is now a pressing task for Germany and Europe to ensure its own security.‚

A comprehensive reform of the debt brake is ‚unavoidable‚, Banaszak emphasized. He sharply criticized Union’s chancellor candidate Friedrich Merz (CDU). It is ‚absolutely irresponsible‚, Banaszak said, that Merz has refused a sensible budget policy until the election day. ‚This alone raises doubts about whether Friedrich Merz has the political grandeur needed for the office of the Federal Chancellor.‚ The Greens are always ready for a discussion on a comprehensive reform of the debt brake, said Banaszak – ‚even if a vote before the constitution of the new German Bundestag is challenging.‚
