A senior member of the Free Democratic Party (FDP) has expressed support for a dual leadership for the party’s upcoming reorganization. Gyde Jensen, the party’s current deputy faction leader, told the Rheinische Post in a recent interview that she would like to see a dual leadership elected at the party’s convention in mid-May.
According to Jensen, the dual leadership could consist of a well-known public figure and a person with a focus on the future. “Behind that, we could have a party presidency, a real team, where everyone takes on tasks, not just representative roles” she said. Jensen noted that the party would need to prepare a bylaw amendment for the party convention in order to implement the dual leadership.
Jensen also mentioned that Wolfgang Kubicki and Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, who have recently announced their candidacies, have a responsibility to run and could bring media attention and resources to the party. “That would be a possibility for the transition – a bridge” she said.
