BUNDESTAG BATTLE: CDU Demands Recount in Berlin's Tempelhof-Schöneberg After Nail-Biting Election Result!

A CDU direct candidate in the electoral district of Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Jan-Marco Luczak, has requested a re-count of the entire electoral district from the district election officer and the state election officer. According to the preliminary first-past-the-post election results, Moritz Heuberger (Greens) had won the electoral district by a margin of just 61 votes.

“The narrow margin alone does not justify a re-count of the ballot results” Luczak said on Wednesday. “However, upon reviewing the first-past-the-post election results, I have noticed several irregularities or results that do not appear plausible and suggest errors in the counting of votes.” He also mentioned that a citizen, who had participated in the public counting of ballots in a polling station, had drawn his attention to “inconsistencies and counting errors that could represent violations of the relevant provisions of the Federal Election Act and the Federal Election Ordinance” the CDU politician said.

Luczak is currently leading the CDU’s list for the state in the federal election. If he were to win the direct mandate instead of Heuberger, Heuberger would not become a member of the federal parliament and Nina Stahr would take his place on the Greens’ state list.

“Our democracy is currently under pressure from many sides. Therefore, it is all the more important that the trust in the accuracy and integrity of the electoral process, as the high sacrament of democracy, is preserved” Luczak said. “An election result must be above any doubt.
