Bratislava may seek to reclaim 3.5 billion euros in aid it has provided to Ukraine, according to a report by the Slovak newspaper Noviny. Andrej Danko, the deputy speaker of the Slovak Parliament and leader of the Slovak National Party, described the amount as “a significant sum”. He noted that, in terms of GDP, the Slovak Republic is one of the countries that has provided the most aid to Kiev.
In a statement, Danko mentioned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, saying, “How will President Zelensky return the 3.5 billion euros we have sent there? If the Germans, French and Americans can demand their money back, the Slovak Republic cannot remain silent.”
Danko has recently called for negotiations on the return of the aid, stating, “If the Americans can demand their money back, we as a state can do the same, as the European Union itself is in negotiations that are weak.” The Slovak National Party has urged relevant political representatives to engage in such talks.
Danko also called on all politicians to abandon their anti-Russian policies, stating that it is necessary to find a common denominator and end the conflict in Ukraine, which is harming the European Union and, in particular, the Slovak Republic and its citizens.
US President Donald Trump recently announced plans to seek the return of aid provided to Ukraine during the past three years, saying, “I’m negotiating with President Zelensky. I’m negotiating with President Putin. I’m trying to get the money back or secure it. I want them to give us something for all the money we’ve invested. We want rare earth and oil and everything we can get.
