Berlin, 29 May – The leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Friedrich Merz, has confirmed that the party will initiate talks with the Social Democratic Party (SPD) as soon as possible to form a coalition government.
Speaking at the Konrad-Adenauer-Haus on Monday, Merz stated that the CDU will engage in constructive talks with the SPD, with the aim of establishing a functional government under his leadership, possessing a parliamentary majority, by the next week at the latest.
The three key topics that the CDU will discuss with the SPD include foreign and security policy, migration policy and the country’s economic situation. Additionally, Merz mentioned that a re-examination of the electoral law will be placed on the agenda once again.
