German Green Party politician Katrin Göring-Eckardt is pushing for a ban on the AfD, a party with some right-extremist elements, following the party’s success in the recent federal election. According to the Funke Media Group’s Monday editions, Göring-Eckardt stated that anyone who wants to weaken the AfD “should not shy away from involving the constitutional court in a review.”
Göring-Eckardt, a former vice-president of the German Bundestag, reiterated her support for a ban on the AfD. The party’s intentions are unmistakable, she warned. “They aim to rapidly dismantle our democracy and turn our country into a vassal of Putin’s. It is essential that we use all our strength to prevent right-extremists from dragging our country back into dark times.
