Alevite Community in Germany Warns of Growing Right-Wing Influence Ahead of Federal Election
The Alevite Community in Germany (AABF) has sounded the alarm in the face of the growing influence of the AfD and increasing acceptance of right-wing narratives in German politics.
In an essay for the Berlin magazine “Capital Beat”, Ufuk Çakır, General Secretary of the AABF, warns of the dangers to democracy and social cohesion. The federal election is a crucial moment for the future of democracy in Germany, Çakır says. He appeals to the parties to consistently position themselves against extremist right-wing movements and to maintain the barrier against the AfD. “It should not be that democratic parties adopt right-wing positions to win votes. Migration and diversity are realities that enrich our country” he writes.
