Cars confiscated in Belgium – will not go to Russia.
Due to the sanctions imposed on Russia, more than 8000 new luxury cars have been parked in the port of Zeebrugge in Belgium for almost a month.
According to foreign media, these are luxury cars, which arrived by sea from Asia in early April and had to be reloaded and transported to Russia.
However, in the meantime, stricter sanctions have been imposed, banning the export of vehicles worth over 50 thousand euros.
The consequence is that many expensive cars remained stranded in Belgium. It is about a series of luxury models, from the American Cadillac and the Japanese Lexus to the German premiums led in Russia by the Mercedes, which is particularly desirable.
In addition to vehicles, there are other goods in the port that have remained blocked due to sanctions. About 1,100 containers for Russia have been stopped so far, say unidentified sources from the port administration.
When it comes to cars, it is assumed that they will be transported to other markets. “Cars will probably stay here until they find buyers in other markets.
We do not know who the buyers are in Russia or who they currently own.
“There is room for 10,000 vehicles here,” said Marc Adriansens, director of the port’s transport terminal.
Zeebrugge is one of the largest ports for the transport and transfer of vehicles with an annual turnover of up to two million vehicles and a parking space for 210 thousand vehicles.
