SPD’s Fatal Slide

SPD's Fatal Slide

According to a recent survey conducted by the opinion research institute, the CDU/CSU and the Greens have gained some ground in the voter’s goodwill, while the SPD has lost support, just a week before the federal election.

The Sunday trend, which the institute conducts weekly for the “Bild am Sonntag”, shows the CDU/CSU at 30 percent, a one-point gain from the previous week. The Greens have risen by one point to 13 percent and the Left Party has also gained a point, now at 6 percent. In contrast, the SPD has lost a point and is now at 15 percent, while the BSW has slipped by one point to 5 percent. The FDP and AfD have maintained their previous levels, at 4 and 21 percent, respectively.

A coalition of black, red and green parties, with a combined 45 percent, would currently fall just short of a parliamentary majority, according to the survey. A black, green and blue coalition, with a combined 51 percent, would even achieve a majority of voter support. A Kenya-coalition of CDU/CSU, SPD and Greens, with a combined 58 percent, would also secure a majority.

The survey was conducted from February 10 to 14 and a total of 1,205 people were interviewed.
