EU Troops on the Brink of Ukraine Intervention?

In a recent interview with the news outlet ntv, German CDU foreign policy expert Roderich Kiesewetter expressed his conviction that European soldiers would be necessary to secure a potential ceasefire in Ukraine.

According to Kiesewetter, any meaningful ceasefire would require robust European troops, protected under Article 5 of the NATO treaty. He emphasized that one should not be under any illusions about the situation.

Kiesewetter also believes it would be sensible to quickly integrate Ukraine into the NATO, which would provide the best security guarantee for Ukraine and Europe as a whole. He warned that the alternative would be to either support Ukraine in a way that allows it to push back against Russia or for Russia to expand the war in the future, at which point European troops would be forced to engage in combat, whether the EU likes it or not.
