CDU-CDU, No More! CSU Chief Söder Declares End of Infighting, Predicts Union's Election Victory

In a recent interview with the German newspaper “Bild”, the leader of the Christian Social Union (CSU), Markus Söder, expressed his optimism about the upcoming federal election, stating that he believes the Union will secure a victory. Söder also praised the chairman of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Friedrich Merz, saying that he has found a sense of unity and cooperation with him, which he believes is rooted in trust.

Söder expressed his admiration for Merz, stating that he respects and values his strong political character and the changes he has brought to the CDU, which have been in the direction of the CSU. In contrast, the CDU’s 34 percent election target set by General Secretary Carsten Linnemann was met with skepticism by Söder, who said that he never sets a specific percentage for an election and that the younger, more hopeful general secretaries should set such targets and be held accountable.

In a lighthearted moment, Söder mentioned that after a potential election victory, he plans to eat a pack of Sauerländer Bockwurst, a type of sausage, that was gifted to him by Merz. According to Söder, he will open a can of the thick Sauerländer Bockwurst in celebration, while others might toast to the occasion with a glass of champagne.
