Borussia Dortmund Secures Advantage in Champions League Playoff
In the first leg of the Champions League playoff, Borussia Dortmund secured a significant advantage by defeating Sporting Lissabon 3-0 away from home. The German club dominated the match, particularly in the second half, after a goalless first half.
Serhou Guirassy broke the deadlock in the 60th minute with a precise header, giving Dortmund the lead. Pascal Groß then added a second goal in the 68th minute, scoring his first goal for the club and his first in the Champions League. Karim Adeyemi sealed the win in the 82nd minute, capitalizing on a thrilling counter-attack.
Sporting Lissabon, despite having some dangerous shots, including a shot that hit the crossbar from Maximiliano Araújo, was unable to find the back of the net. Dortmund, after taking the lead, controlled the game and allowed only minimal opportunities for the Portuguese team.
The return leg is scheduled to take place in a week’s time in Dortmund, where the German club can secure a spot in the quarterfinals with a win.
