The top candidate of the Left party demands a state-guided transformation of the autobahn. “Why shouldn’t VW start building tramways?” Jan van Aken told the “New Osnabrück Times” (Thursday edition).

The Left party is fighting for a seat in the Bundestag, with approval rates improving slightly in recent polls. “If you try to make climate protection without considering social needs, you’ll have the majority against you” van Aken said. That’s why the Greens have done a disservice to climate policy.
