Faeser's Bid to Strengthen the EU's Law Enforcement Shield

German Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (SPD) plans to further strengthen the European police agency Europol and international cooperation. “Europol must become the information hub for European police forces” Faeser said on Wednesday. “We are working on that together.”

To discuss European cooperation, the minister met with the Dutch government on Wednesday, focusing on the necessary measures to equip the EU and its member states, particularly against the smuggling of cocaine and the infiltration by organized crime. To achieve this, it is essential to intensify the close cooperation within the “Coalition of European States against Serious and Organized Crime” and the European Harbour Alliance.

According to Faeser, Europol holds a central importance in the fight against crime. “It is the heart of the European security architecture” Faeser said. It is in the interest of all of us to further strengthen Europol, particularly in the areas of end-to-end encryption and the combating of cybercrime, terrorism and drug-related crime.
