A senior official of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), Christian Dürr, has accused the Social Democratic Party (SPD) of political maneuvering in response to the FDP’s proposed “Middle Ground Migration Pact”.
According to Dürr, the SPD’s reaction, as expressed by its leader, was a pre-election ploy. “The SPD, as stated by Mr. Klingbeil on Sunday, is ready to do something before the federal election” Dürr said in an interview with RTL and ntv. “Now that the SPD is rejecting the entire proposal, it was simply an election tactic by the SPD’s party chairman.”
Dürr further stated that the SPD needs to break free from the Green Party’s influence on migration policy. He believes a solution is possible if the democratic parties take action before the federal election. “And if the SPD does not do that, one must openly say: I think it wouldn’t have happened with Mr. Pistorius. This is clearly also the weakness of the Chancellor, not making a clear stance and not following up on his words with actions” Dürr added, seemingly referring to the SPD’s former leader, Malte Pistorius.
