Postal Pandemonium: Verdi's Strike Threatens to Paralyze Germany's Mail Delivery

As the conflict with the German Post intensifies, the German Services Union (Verdi) has called for further warning strikes. The full-scale warning strikes are set to begin on Wednesday, with the union announcing that employees in select postal centers will have already gone on strike the day before. Verdi aims to increase the pressure on the employer with the strikes, with the message being clear: “We mean business and we’re ready to fight for our demands” said Verdi’s deputy chair, Andrea Kocsis.

The union is demanding a 7% tariff increase for employees and apprentices, as well as dual students, with a 12-month contract duration. Additionally, Verdi is seeking three extra days of leave for employees and apprentices, as well as an extra day off for Verdi members. The third round of tariff negotiations is scheduled for February 12 and 13.
