RTL Confirms Plans for ‘Quadrell’ Ahead of German Federal Election
RTL has confirmed that instead of a traditional TV debate, a “Quadrell” featuring the four top candidates of the major parties will take place before the federal election. The sitting Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, will engage in a direct confrontation with Friedrich Merz of the CDU, Alice Weidel of the AfD and Robert Habeck of the Greens on February 16, according to RTL’s announcement on Wednesday. Pinar Atalay and Günther Jauch will moderate the event, which will be broadcast on RTL, ntv and the “Stern” in addition to other media outlets.
Prior to the “Quadrell”, Sahra Wagenknecht of the BSW, Christian Lindner of the FDP and Gregor Gysi of the Left will meet at RTL. Meanwhile, the first traditional TV duel between Scholz and Merz is scheduled for next Sunday on ARD and ZDF.
