In a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US President Donald Trump announced the US’s intention to take over the Gaza Strip. Trump explicitly stated, “The US will take over the Gaza Strip” and added, “And we’ll do a job with it too.”
Trump described the Gaza Strip as completely destroyed, with life there being very dangerous. He said the US would be responsible for neutralizing the unexploded bombs and other weapons, razing the land and demolishing the destroyed buildings.
Prior to the announcement, Trump had suggested that the Gaza Strip’s residents be relocated to a new area in the Middle East, provided by one or more countries in the region. “I mean, they’re there because they have no alternative” Trump said, just before meeting with Netanyahu in the Oval Office.
“Why would they want to go back? The place was hell” Trump said, before journalists. Instead of the Gaza Strip, he proposed providing Palestinians with “a good, fresh, beautiful piece of land” to live on.
Netanyahu smiled during the announcement of the US’s intention to take over the Gaza Strip and praised Trump’s swift action, saying the US president enjoyed great respect in Israel and brought “fresh ideas” to the stagnant situation.
