The CDU’s Federal Youth Leader, Karin Prien, Can Account for the Dissenters in Her Party’s Vote on the Bill to Limit the Asylum Seeker Quota.
In an interview with Politico, Prien expressed understanding for her party members who did not support the bill. “Of course, I can understand that” she said. “There were certainly individual colleagues who couldn’t go along with it.”
Prien emphasized the CDU’s stance on not cooperating with the far-right AfD party. “We are not making any of our cooperation with the AfD available in any form” she made clear. “We are seeking a stable majority in the center. That was the goal and that is the goal.”
“We did not ask for the AfD’s vote on our proposal. We are not seeking cooperation with the AfD. We are not coalitions with them. We certainly do not want a minority government with them. They are our political opponent” Prien added.
The CDU will likely reintroduce proposals for a stricter migration policy in the Bundestag after the election, but only if they have a stable majority in the parliament, Prien promised.
