Merkel's Migrant 'Disaster' Ignites AfD's Rise, Claims Bavarian Minister

In the wake of the migration debate in the German Bundestag, Hubert Aiwanger, the chairman of the Free Voters, has held Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) partially responsible for the rise of the Alternative for Germany (AfD).

“Merkel initiated the disaster in 2015, from which we have not yet recovered and the grand coalition has only exacerbated it in the last years” the Bavarian Minister of Economics said to the newspapers of the Mediengruppe Bayern. “Merkel is also the mother of the AfD. More and more voters are going to the right, frustrated.”

According to Aiwanger, the result is that “government participation by red and green is cemented, because otherwise, there are no majorities. Look at the situation in the new federal states. Even with over 30 percent of the AfD, others, including those close to the Stasi, are in power.”

From Aiwanger’s perspective, the Free Voters “are seeking a seat in the Bundestag nationwide, because we see that we must pour the soup that is being served to us in Berlin into a bowl at home.” He finds it surprising that the Christian Social Union (CSU) is trying to prevent the Free Voters from entering the Bundestag: “They should be glad that we exist, as we preserve the country and also them from black and green.”

Looking at the votes in the Bundestag in the past week, Aiwanger stated: “I stand by the contents that Merz presented in the debate.” The question is, how these can be achieved. “We must finally implement effective law in migration” Aiwanger added. “A proper federal government could already today refuse illegal immigrants at the border and deport criminals. And a bad government ruins the country, even with the best laws.
