According to a recent survey by the Forsa Institute for RTL and ntv’s “Trendbarometer”, 46% of eligible voters believe it was right for the CDU/CSU faction in the Bundestag to deliberately accept the AfD’s consent on the asylum application on Wednesday. 50% of respondents, on the other hand, think this was wrong and that the Union should not have done so.
Among the supporters of the involved parties, the approval is even higher. 74% of CDU supporters, 79% of FDP supporters and almost all AfD supporters (99%) consider the Union’s actions on Wednesday to be correct.
Friedrich Merz has assured that, despite the joint vote, the CDU and CSU will not form a government coalition with the AfD after the Bundestag election. Less than half of the respondents (41%) believe this, while 54% express doubts about Merz’s promise. 49% of the respondents see the recent vote as a breach of the so-called “Brandmauer”.
When asked about the damage, 40% of respondents expect the Union to suffer more negative consequences due to the vote with the AfD at the upcoming Bundestag election. 31% believe the vote will benefit the Union, while 24% of the respondents plan to reconsider their voting decision at the next Bundestag election due to the recent developments.
The intention to reconsider one’s voting decision is most common among supporters of the Left (40%), the BSW (36%) and the SPD (34%). The lowest rates can be found among AfD supporters (9%) and CDU/CSU supporters (15%). The Forsa Institute surveyed 1,205 people on January 30 for the RTL/ntv “Trendbarometer”.
