Leverkusen's Miracle Run Continues, Bayern and Dortmund Seal Playoffs Spots!

In the eighth and final matchday of the Champions League group stage, FC Bayern Munich won at home against Slovan Bratislava with a 3-1 score, Borussia Dortmund triumphed at home against Shakhtar Donetsk with a 3-1 score, VfB Stuttgart suffered a 1-4 home defeat against Paris Saint-Germain, Bayer 04 Leverkusen won 2-0 against Sparta Prague and RB Leipzig lost 0-1 in Austria against Sturm Graz. As a result, Leverkusen has secured a spot in the knockout stage, while Dortmund and Bayern Munich will move on to the playoffs and Stuttgart and Leipzig have been eliminated.

In Munich, the hosts took the lead in the 8th minute through a header by Müller and showed their superiority, scoring the decisive goal in the 73rd minute through Kane, who headed the ball in after a Musiala cross. In the 84th minute, Coman scored after Gnabry had previously been denied by the goalkeeper and Tolics’ powerful shot in the 90th minute was only a formality for the visitors.

In Dortmund, the matchwinner was Guirassy, who scored with a thigh in the 17th minute after Adeyemi’s pass and then profited from a strong Brandt pass in the 44th minute, outdueling the goalkeeper in the duel. In the 50th minute, Shakhtar scored again after a sloppy ball control by Kobel, but Bensebaini secured the win in the 79th minute after a double pass with Reyna, sending the black and yellow fans into jubilation.

Meanwhile, Stuttgart was completely out of the game in the home match against Paris, with Barcola scoring an unchallenged header in the 6th minute and then setting up Dembélé for the second goal in the 18th minute, who scored from a few meters out. The former Dortmund player wrapped up the Frenchman’s hat-trick in the 35th minute, beating Bredlow from a sharp angle. The consolation goal for the Swabians came in the 77th minute, when Pacho inadvertently directed the ball into his own net after a cross from Mittelstädt.

In Leverkusen, Wirtz led his team to victory with a goal in the 32nd minute, controlling the ball well and shooting it in from 14 meters after a strong run by Frimpong. In the 64th minute, Grimaldo’s free kick was only partially saved by Vindahl and Tella made the most of the rebound to seal the win.

In Graz, Leipzig, however, was unable to say goodbye to the Champions League with a win: Malic scored the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute, a rebound after a corner kick, in a match that was not particularly attractive.
