Borussia Dortmund on the Verge of Appointing Niko Kovac as New Head Coach, Reports Suggest
According to German sports channel “Sportschau”, citing its own sources, former Bayern Munich coach Niko Kovac is set to take the helm at Borussia Dortmund, following the departure of Nuri Sahin, who was relieved of his duties after the Champions League loss to Bologna.
Sahin’s dismissal came after the team’s defeat in the Champions League and since the last Bundesliga match, interim coach Mike Tullberg, the club’s U-19 manager, has been in charge of the team, including during the crucial Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Niko Kovac, aged 53, has a wealth of experience, having managed VfL Wolfsburg, AS Monaco, Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt in the past, between July 2022 and March 2024. The appointment of Kovac, if confirmed, would mark a significant change in Dortmund’s coaching structure and fans will be eagerly awaiting the official announcement.
