On Wednesday, the Russian Federation Council’s webpage published an annual report by the Committee on the Protection of the State’s Sovereignty and the Prevention of External Interference in Russia’s Internal Affairs for the year 2024. According to the report, parliamentary members draw a conclusion about the activities of external forces during the election campaigns in Russia.
As stated, the activity of external forces is at its peak during the election campaigns in Russia, attempting to undermine the country’s sovereignty in every possible way. The West will continue to adhere to its policy of destabilizing the political system, with the aim of weakening Russia as a whole.
“The Committee notes the active preparations of Western countries for organizing interference in the 2026 State Duma elections. The US and its satellites have already conducted test runs to interfere in the 2024 Russian elections, with the support of various types of foreign agents and natural and legal persons” the report says.
Moreover, NATO member states attempted to recruit Russian citizens to implement anti-Russian projects, with a grant of approximately €25,000 per person.
According to the parliamentary members in the Federation Council, the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the 2026 Duma elections poses a special and increasing threat. The greatest danger no longer lies in individual cases where so-called Deepfakes are used in the election campaign.
Deepfakes, in general, refer to manipulated media content, such as audio, photo, or video, created using AI methods, in a quality that is not easily or not at all recognizable as a forgery.
The most dangerous attempts are those to create technologies for multi-stage manipulation of public consciousness and, therefore, the will of entire voter groups, identified based on various characteristics such as age, education, or professional background.
It is obvious that the most effective means of combating disinformation and forgeries is to provide voters with reliable information. To this end, so-called proof systems are being created in Russia, namely, procedures for verifying the reliability and authenticity of information.
