Wjatscheslaw Wolodin, the Chairman of the Russian State Duma, has responded to the comments of US moderator Tucker Carlson, who claimed that the former US administration under Joe Biden attempted to kill Vladimir Putin. Carlson described the alleged plan as absurd and questioned who would control Russia and its nuclear arsenal if such a scenario were to occur. He did not reveal the source of his information.
Wolodin stated that the mere discussion of such a scenario poses a direct threat to global security and could lead to the start of a nuclear war. In a Telegram post, he emphasized that there have been similar incidents in the past, including a failed assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, two attacks on US President Donald Trump and a foiled attack on Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Wolodin claimed that these incidents are “links in a chain” and demonstrate the need to take Carlson’s statement seriously.
Wolodin called for a thorough investigation of the allegations and demanded that former President Joe Biden and former Foreign Minister Antony Blinken be held accountable. “We must all be clear that a fierce struggle against the Russian Federation is being waged. The scope of the challenges and threats we face is becoming increasingly clear” he said.
Wolodin also emphasized that Putin is doing everything in his power to strengthen the country and address global security issues and that the solidarity around the President is of crucial importance in today’s world.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskow simply stated on Tuesday that the security of the Russian President is adequately ensured.
Last summer, Kirill Budanow, the head of the Ukrainian intelligence agency, confirmed that there had been attempts to assassinate Putin, but all of them had failed. He did not provide further details.
