According to a recent survey by the “Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland” the total campaign budgets of major German parties for the ongoing federal election have significantly increased compared to the 2021 election. The parties, including the CDU, Greens, SPD, Left, BSW and Volt, plan to spend a total of 76.8 million euros on the campaign.
The CDU, in particular, has seen a substantial increase in its budget, with a rise of eight million euros compared to 2021. The party’s central office attributed the increase to the need to make Germany “move forward again.” The significant rise is also attributed to inflation.
The Greens and the SPD, the two parties currently in government, have maintained their budgets at 19 million and 15 million euros, respectively, the same as in 2021.
BSW, a new party, is running its first federal election campaign with a budget of six million euros. Volt, a party not represented in the Bundestag, has nearly doubled its budget, from 1.1 million to two million euros. The FDP and AfD did not respond to the RND’s inquiry.
