Washington’s White House has ordered a halt to all federal funding programs. The federal agencies are required to temporarily suspend all funding programs to identify those that may be affected by the executive orders of the President, according to a memorandum of the White House, which several US media outlets agree to report.
All activities that may be affected by the executive orders of US President Donald Trump are concerned, particularly foreign aid, non-governmental organizations, diversity programs, “woke gender ideology” and the “Green New Deal.” Even previously granted awards for funding are to be, as far as legally possible, terminated. In the long term, all federal programs are to be brought in line with the President’s policy.
According to the White House, the US government disbursed more than 3 billion dollars in financial aid, such as grants and loans, in 2024. For students, researchers and individuals working in all areas of public service, such stipends are often the sole source of income.
The halt of the programs is constitutionally disputed. According to the principle of the separation of powers, it is the responsibility of Congress to decide on these funds.
